Caboolture Memorial Hall in Caboolture, Australia

Longman Community Forum

A prosperous future for Queensland means protecting our land, water & climate and transitioning to renewable energy. These are big issues and we need to raise their profile for Longman voters and local media.

That’s why we’re hosting the Longman Community Forum: Protecting our land, water and climate.

You'll hear from:

  • Young grazier Jody Brown, from Longreach in Western Queensland. Jody will speak about climate change, water and Adani.
  • Groundwater expert Tom Crothers, former General Manager of the Queensland Govt's Water Allocation and Planning Group. Tom will speak about the problems with Adani's free unlimited groundwater licence.
  • Young agricultural leader Verity Morgan-Schmidt, CEO of Farmers for Climate Action. Verity will speak about how climate change is already affecting Queensland farming, and how farmers are responding.
  • Climate and renewables expert Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the Climate Council. Amanda will speak about how Queensland can transition to renewable energy.

The LNP Candidate for Longman has confirmed he will attend, and we expect the ALP candidate to do the same soon. A huge turnout at the forum will show politicians and local media just how important these issues are.

Webinar

National Energy Guarantee Online Webinar

Australia operates one of the longest interconnected power systems in the world! Called the National Energy Market (NEM), this system stretches from Port Douglas in Queensland all the way to Port Lincoln in South Australia, with a connection to Tasmania going under Bass Strait.

The National Energy Guarantee (NEG) is the government’s proposed policy to deal with climate pollution in the energy sector. A climate and energy policy is vital to Australia addressing our climate commitments and ensuring a smooth transition to clean, renewable energy.

It is a very complex policy space. Thankfully, Professor Ken Baldwin – the Director of the ANU Energy Change Institute – is hosting a webinar on the NEG and the NEM.

The NEG needs sign-off from every state and territory in the NEM to come into law. It is vital that farmers, industry leaders and consumers understand exactly what we're signing up to and what this may mean for agriculture and other parts of the economy.

Join the webinar and hear Professor Baldwin outline what the NEG means for our energy system, our climate targets and what the evidence says we need from a climate and energy policy. He will also be able to answer your questions.
