The changing climate is making it increasingly difficult to farm. Increased droughts, bushfires, heatwaves means that farmers will start walking off the land unless we do something.
Our government can do something today to support farmers to deal with the changing climate – and to become part of the solution. We need a national strategy for climate change and agriculture.
We have a chance with the new Agriculture Minister, David Littleproud, to pick up where we left off last time and get consensus on a national approach to dealing with the impacts of climate change on agriculture.
That means making sure the minister hears directly from farmers so they can make the case that the government needs to show better leadership on climate and commit to practical next steps to help farmers move forward with solutions.
We have worked with him before. With your help we can work with him to realise a national strategy on climate change and agriculture.
