Dear Minister McCormack and other candidates,
As farmers and members of regional communities in the Riverina, we are concerned about the lack of action on climate change from the Federal and State governments.
Farmers are some of the hardest hit by climate change but our farm businesses and communities also stand to gain the most from climate solutions.
It is getting more challenging to farm as the weather gets more extreme: record heat waves, droughts, floods, shifting rainfall patterns. Mother nature is throwing all she can at us and we’re struggling to keep up.
Renewable energy and on-farm solutions will bring money and investment to the regions. They will not only help to tackle climate change but also help boost regional economies.
We are calling on you to take action on climate change by:
- Demanding and delivering the integration of climate science into core policies: drought, energy and water
- A strong renewable energy target that drives investment and renewable energy to the regions
- A National Strategy on Climate Change and Agriculture that includes incentives for farmers to tackle climate change on-farm
As farmers, community members and voters we are calling for our elected representatives to do more. We want to create accountability and climate action at every level of government and community.
We need a Government and representatives that will take the lead on action against global warming now. We are calling on you to step up and provide leadership that is so critically needed.
